When Netflix texts you a code

Netflix sends a text code when you sign in with a code instead of a password, verify a device or confirm a phone number saved on the account.

The Netflix Household rules can also trigger a code: a device outside the account's home location may be asked to verify by email or text. The code goes to the contact detail saved on the account, so it cannot be redirected to a number you pick on the spot.

Reading a Netflix code on a public number

A public line can receive a Netflix text only when that line is the number you entered on the Netflix screen.

Copy a line from the list above, add it where Netflix asks for a mobile number and request the text. Watch the number page for the code, which stays in full for 10 minutes. An existing membership will not send codes to a public line unless that number is saved on the account.

Why a shared line suits Netflix badly

A shared line puts a sign-in code for your membership in front of every visitor to that number page.

Anyone who sees the code at the right moment can use it, and a Netflix account carries a payment method and a viewing history. Only SMS arrives, so codes that Netflix sends by email never show up here.

Better options for a Netflix account

Email sign-up and your own number cover a Netflix membership far better than any public line.
