39 US lines onlineno SMS yetupdated 2026-10-02 23:08 UTC
A US number for WhatsApp is a +1 line with an American area code, typed into WhatsApp as 10 digits under United States. Our public US lines receive the 6-digit WhatsApp SMS on a shared inbox page, so they fit a test account and nothing you plan to keep. As of 2 October 2026, 39 US lines are online for WhatsApp tests.
To get a US number on WhatsApp for a test, pick a line from the free US numbers list and register it with United States selected. WhatsApp texts a 6-digit code to that +1 line, written like 123-456, and the code appears on the line's page.
Our US lines take SMS only, so a WhatsApp voice code never reaches them. When the countdown offers a call, wait for the text instead, and see WhatsApp code not received if it stalls.
Type a +1 number in WhatsApp as 10 digits after choosing United States, with no extra 1 and no leading 0. A New York line written as (212) 555-0142 goes in as 2125550142. WhatsApp adds the +1 itself.
The same number in E.164, the international format WhatsApp stores, reads +12125550142. Click-to-chat links use it without the plus sign, as in wa.me/12125550142. If WhatsApp says the number is invalid, the usual cause is a doubled 1 or a missing area code digit.
A +1 number on WhatsApp can be American or Canadian, because both countries share country code 1 under the North American Numbering Plan. Several Caribbean countries use +1 too, so only the area code shows which country a WhatsApp contact's number belongs to.
Area codes such as 212, 305 and 415 belong to the United States, while 416, 604 and 514 are Canadian. WhatsApp lists both United States and Canada with +1 in its country picker. Choose the country that matches the line, and use the Canada numbers list for a Canadian +1.
People need a US number for WhatsApp when a +1 identity matters to the test, such as a profile that American contacts will see. A developer checking how a wa.me link opens for US users is one case. A support team trying a WhatsApp Business greeting for a US audience is another.
US habits explain the demand. Many Americans text through SMS and iMessage by default, so a +1 WhatsApp account often exists for chats with relatives and colleagues abroad. A short test on a public US line shows how such an account looks to them before anyone commits a real number.
Every US option shows +1 in WhatsApp, yet the line type behind it decides whether the 6-digit code arrives and who reads it. The table compares four ways to put an American number on WhatsApp.
| US option | Line type | Who reads the code | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public US line here | Mobile, shared page | Anyone who opens it | A WhatsApp test account |
| TextNow or Google Voice number | VoIP, which WhatsApp may refuse | The app user | US calls and texts inside that app |
| Prepaid US SIM or eSIM | Mobile | You | Living in or visiting the US |
| Private US number | Non-VoIP, private | Only you | An account you keep |
A public +1 line should hold only a test account because WhatsApp ties one account to one number and anyone can read the line's page. A later code request on the same US line moves the account to another phone, so keep real chats on a private number (coming soon).
Get the most out of a +1 WhatsApp test account by registering right after the SMS appears, then setting a profile name that marks the account as a test. Save test contacts in full +1 format, because WhatsApp reads a number without a country code by the region of your phone.
If a US line already shows recent WhatsApp codes from other visitors, the number may be registered elsewhere, so pick a quieter line. When the test is over, open Settings, then Account, and choose Delete account. That detaches the +1 number from your test profile before the next visitor uses the line.
A private number receives codes only for you.
