Using Amazon With Email Instead of a Mobile Number
Amazon accepts an email address at sign-up on many country sites, and its 6-digit one-time password then goes to that mailbox. A few flows still demand a mobile number. This page shows what the email route covers, how to sign in without your phone and where a temporary line fits.
Amazon sign-up works with an email on many country sites
Many Amazon sign-up forms accept an email address in place of a mobile number, though the wording differs by country site. Enter your name, type the email in the field for mobile number or email, set a password and confirm the one-time code that Amazon emails you.
Some users report that certain country sites and flagged sign-ups still require a mobile number. The form you see decides, and it can change between attempts.
Why Amazon has no official way to skip a required phone check
Amazon provides no official way to bypass a phone check once it requires one. The request comes from fraud and account protection rules, so tricks fail often and can get an account flagged.
Within the rules you still have choices: email verification if the page shows it, a different device or trusted network, or a number you can read. A VPN that changes your region can make the request more likely.
Sign in when you cannot reach your phone
You sign in with your email and password, and Amazon can use email or a backup method when it asks for a code. Choose the option for another way to verify on the code screen.
Accounts with two-step verification should keep an authenticator app and backup methods in place. If the phone is lost and no backup exists, Amazon's recovery pages for failed two-step verification and customer service are the route. Be ready to prove who you are.
Change or remove the number saved on your account
You change the saved number in Your Account, under Login and security, where the mobile phone number is listed. Amazon usually asks for a code sent to a current contact before it lets you edit.
Add a working email first and confirm it, so the account holds another contact. Then edit or remove the old number. If a code does not arrive during this step, see Amazon code not received.
Programs that add their own phone checks
Selling and business programs can run extra identity checks that include a phone number. Those checks sit apart from ordinary shopping sign-up, so an email-only account may still meet them later.
Read what each program requires before you apply, since details differ by country site and can change. A phone number that you cannot keep is a poor choice there.
Where a temporary number fits on Amazon
A temporary number fits a throwaway or demo account when Amazon insists on a text. Pick a line from the Amazon number page, enter it and read the code in the shared inbox.
The inbox is open to anyone, so keep orders, saved cards and addresses off such an account. Real shopping accounts belong on an email contact or a private number.
