When Facebook Does Not Send Your Confirmation Code
Facebook sends different codes for sign-up, password reset and two-factor login, and each one can fail for a different reason. Identify the flow first, because a 6-digit login code needs a different fix than a 5-digit sign-up code. This page lists the checks by flow and ends with the recovery route.
Which Facebook code you are waiting for
Facebook uses one code for sign-up confirmation, another for password reset and a third for two-factor login. A sign-up code goes to the phone or email you typed in the form. A reset code goes to the contact you pick on the Find Your Account screen, and a login approval code goes to your two-factor method.
Knowing the flow tells you where to look: the number you entered, the email on the account or the authentication app. Codes sent by SMS are short messages that often start with FB-.
Checks for a missing SMS
A missing Facebook SMS most often comes from a typo in the number, weak signal or a carrier that blocks short-code senders. Confirm that the country selector matches your SIM and that every digit is correct.
Switch airplane mode on and off, restart the phone and look in the spam or unknown senders list of your messages app. Prepaid plans and roaming setups sometimes hold back automated texts, and dual-SIM phones may receive on the other SIM.
Why Facebook may not email the code
Facebook sends email codes to the address on the account or the one you typed, and these messages often land in spam. Search the mailbox for the sender name Facebook and look in the spam, promotions and trash folders.
Messages come from a facebookmail.com address, so a filter that blocks that domain stops them. Confirm that the address spelled on the screen is one you can open, and wait a few minutes before you ask for another message.
Too many attempts and the pause that follows
After several failed or repeated requests, Facebook pauses new codes for a while. Each tap on resend can cancel the earlier code, so a crowd of messages leaves you typing an old one.
Stop after one resend, wait, and use the newest message only. If the screen says to try again later, close the app and return after a break instead of sending more requests.
Two-factor codes that do not arrive
If a two-factor login code does not arrive, switch to an authentication app code or a saved recovery code. Choose the option for another way to confirm on the login screen.
Recovery codes work once each and only if you saved them earlier. Some accounts can also receive codes on WhatsApp, provided the same number is active there.
When a different number helps
A different number helps when the old one is blocked, already linked elsewhere or out of reach. For a test account, take a line from the Facebook number page, enter it and wait for the SMS in the shared inbox.
These lines do not receive calls, so choose the text option in Facebook. Do not tie a public line to a profile you care about, since anyone can read its inbox. A private number is the right tool there.
If nothing works: Help Center and recovery
If no method works, start from the Find Your Account page and follow the recovery steps Facebook shows for your account. The 'No longer have access to these?' link lets you give a new contact, and Facebook may ask for extra proof of identity.
Official answers come from the Facebook Help Center. Ways to use Facebook with email only are covered in Facebook without a phone number, and Instagram codes follow a similar path in Instagram code not received.
