Discord phone check with a public line: one number, one account
Discord wants a phone number when a server requires verified members or when the account looks new. A phone number can be attached to only one Discord account at a time, so the trick is finding a line nobody has used for Discord yet.
When Discord asks for a number
- A server’s verification level is set to “Highest”.
- Discord’s anti-spam flags a new account or a new login location.
- You enable SMS as a two-factor backup.
Step by step
- Open Discord numbersOn Discord numbers look for a line with no recent Discord messages — that one is less likely to be taken.
- Enter the numberUser Settings → My Account → Add phone. Pick the country code first.
- Read the 6-digit codeIt arrives as “Your Discord verification code is …”. The code is highlighted on the number page.
- Remove the number later if you wantAfter verification you can remove the phone from the account; the server keeps you as verified.
“This phone number is already in use”
Discord links each number to a single account, and on a shared line somebody may have got there first. Take another line, ideally from a different country — the countries page shows which ones are online right now.
Public or private
If you run a server or the account holds purchases, use a private number so nobody else can claim it for their account or trigger SMS resets.
Public numbers are shared. Anyone can read the same inbox.
